A representative for the Morning Show actress, 47, shot down rumors that she and the Yellowstone actor, 68, are romantically involved following their respective divorces, saying in a statement to PEOPLE Thursday, “This story is completely fabricated and not true.” (A rep for Costner didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.)
The denial comes a little more than six months after Witherspoon was the unfortunate target of other dating rumors, that time involving Tom Brady. Reps for both the Oscar winner and the NFL star told PEOPLE in April that the two were not seeing each other, and had never even met.
Witherspoon and ex-husband Jim Toth announced their split in March, after 12 years of marriage, and reached a divorce settlement in August. The couple announced their “difficult decision” to split on social media, just days before their anniversary. In a joint statement, they said, “We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciated everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” a rep for Costner said at the time. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
