“I thought ultimately I’d be helping a precarious situation, but I learned very quickly that I was being weaponized,” said Julia Fox
Julia Fox is speaking out about her short romance with Kanye West.
The Uncut Gems actress, 33, said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times about her book Down the Drain that she initially thought her relationship with the rapper and fashion mogul, 46, “could be something real.”
“I really understood him on a visceral level,” Fox said, adding that she “thought ultimately I’d be helping a precarious situation” when it came to his dynamic with his ex, Kim Kardashian.
“But I learned very quickly that I was being weaponized,” she added. “I just felt like his little puppet.”
A rep for West did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The actress and model has said she touches on her relationship with West “lightly” in the book, but told the Times, “I’m not signing a f—ing NDA just on principle. I never have, and I never will.” She then added, “Unless it’s a professional opportunity, then sure.”
As for how their romance may have affected Fox’s career, she said she “know(s) for a fact I’ve been up for certain things and couldn’t do it because of dating Kanye. It’s kind of wild.”
“It really wasn’t that big of a deal, but other people made it such a big deal,” she said of their relationship.
Fox also spoke to Rolling Stone about her time with West, saying the “weaponizing” aspect is “why the relationship only lasted a month.”
Additionally, the No Sudden Move actress writes in her memoir, per Rolling Stone, that the date between her and West that she previously described in Interview magazine “was largely fictional and written at his team’s behest,” as the outlet describes.
Calling it a “red flag,” Fox told Rolling Stone, “When I realized what was happening, I was like, ‘I don’t want to be part of this.’ “
Fox, who has a 2-year-old son named Valentino, also admitted that she “probably would have stuck it out longer” if she “wasn’t a mom,” noting earlier in the interview that she “made a lot of money” during her relationship with West.
“If I was still that version of myself, I would have probably just been like, ‘It’s a good opportunity, just do it,’ ” she said. “Now that I’m a mom, I have a higher moral standard for myself.”
