David McCallum dead at 90: NCIS actor dies at hospital as he’s remembered as ‘a gentleman’ in sweet tribute

NCIS actor David McCallum has died at the age of 90, and he’s remembered by fans and colleagues.

He died while in New York Presbyterian Hospital on the morning of September 25.

David died from natural causes, and he was surrounded by family in his final moments.

The seasoned actor celebrated his birthday less than a week before his death.

NCIS was a spin-off of the television show JAG, and it premiered two decades ago on September 23, 2003.

The CBS show entered its 20th full season this year.

It was previously announced that there would be a 20th anniversary NCIS marathon, and it will now include an “In memoriam” card in remembrance of David.

He was the last remaining original cast member on the show, and he played Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard.

BELOVED GENTLEMAN

NCIS executive producers Steven D. Binder and David North released a statement about their longtime star.

They said: “For over twenty years, David McCallum endeared himself to audiences around the world playing the wise, quirky, and sometimes enigmatic, Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard.

“But as much as his fans may have loved him, those who worked side by side with David loved him that much more.”

They continued: “He was a scholar and a gentleman, always gracious, a consummate professional, and never one to pass up a joke.

“From day one, it was an honor to work with him and he never let us down. He was, quite simply, a legend. He was also family and will be deeply missed.”

NCIS studio CBS Studios also made a joint statement saying: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of David McCallum and privileged that CBS was his home for so many years.

“David was a gifted actor and author, and beloved by many around the world.

“He led an incredible life, and his legacy will forever live on through his family and the countless hours on film and television that will never go away.”

RIP DUCKY

Fans of NCIS on X, formerly known as Twitter, are deeply saddened by the loss of the fan-favorite character.

One said: “Nooooo. I’m such a big fan of that show. Rip, David.”

Another said: “David McCallum was the reason why I watched NCIS… RIP.”

A third said: “Very sad to hear this. I’m a big fan of NCIS and he was so much fun to watch. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.”

Someone said: “I’m Gutted. Another Amazing actor gone, Ducky was one of my favorite characters in NCIS! Rest in Peace David McCallum.”

A fifth said: “Oh my. R.I.P. Mr. McCallum. Of late, remembered as Ducky from NCIS, but he was also on The Man from Uncle and an accomplished producer.”
