Amal Clooney labeled ‘ugly’ and blasted for skinny legs — George’s response is perfect
George Clooney continues to be in awe of his wife Amal Clooney, the mysterious and attractive woman who won his heart and ended his status as a bachelor, despite furious criticism from admirers.
“Everything about my wife is sort of magical, as I think everybody has come to realize as they see her and hear her and hear what she stands for.” The screen-savvy Clooney said to Entertainment Tonight in 2022. “There’s just not a downside to her.”
George Clooney is well-known for playing a variety of roles in both television and movies. The Hollywood hottie may be remembered by some as a young handyman in the well-known sitcom The Facts of Life, which ran from 1979 to 1988. In more recent years, he has appeared as a leading man in films including Ticket to Paradise, Ocean’s Eleven, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2022).
He scored his biggest job as a life partner when he met the lovely Lebanese-British human rights attorney then known as Amal Alamuddin in 2013.
After just six months of dating, the couple’s epic love tale continued in 2014 with a proposal.
Clooney, now 61, said of that moment, “Literally, I dropped it on her, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh, my God,’ and ‘Wow!’ We just sat there, and finally I said, ‘Listen, I’m 52, and I’ve been on my knee now for about 28 minutes, so I have to get an answer out of this or I’m going to throw a hip out. I might not be able to stand back up!”
The couple wed in September 2014 at Venice, Italy’s opulent Aman Canal Grande hotel, in front of a star-studded audience that included Bono, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray.
Amal was thrust into the spotlight the moment she began dating Clooney, making her open to the unrestrained criticism of online trolls.
Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, and Yulia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister of Ukraine who backed her nation’s enlargement into the European Union, are among Amal’s many well-known clients. Amal is currently 45 years old. She also spoke on behalf of the UN in 2019.
Social media users disparage the model, calling her “ugly” and a “gawky gargoyle,” ignoring her accomplishments in favor of her appearance and physique.
“I am completely baffled at the fact that when George Clooney finally decides to settle down he picks Amal Clooney, who looks like an ugly man,” one Twitter user wrote in January 2015.
ELLE Magazine shared a link to the article 54 Moments Amal Clooney Looked Absolutely Gorgeous on Twitter in September of the same year. Readers responded.
She’s pretty, but her legs are shapeless sticks and sticky, according to one commenter, while another commented, “So terribly thin too too thin boney old thing.”
One person defended the attorney in the meantime and said, “Amal Clooney is a knowledgeable & experienced lawyer!! Who cares how she dresses?
And in one instance, a prominent news organization simply disregarded Amal’s unique accomplishments.
In 2015, the Associated Press was blasted for referring to Amal–who at the time was representing Egyptian-Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy–as an “actor’s wife.”
The Tweet read, “Amal Clooney, actor’s wife, representing Al-Jazeera journalist accused in Egypt of ties to extremists.”
People fired back at AP, driving the news outlet to revise the Tweet to, “Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney criticizes prison terms handed down to three Al-Jazeera English journalists.”
Responding on BBC through Entertainment Tonight, Amal tactfully said, “There’s not much I can do to control it except keep going. When people criticize journalism that focuses on the wrong issues, that’s heartening and that shows that people expect more from their press.”
In March 2022, Amal was recognized by Time in a cover feature titled Women of the Year, 12 Leaders Working Toward a More Equal World. The story was written by one of her clients, Maria Ressa, a Filipino-American journalist and Nobel Peace laureate. In the article, Amal Clooney Won’t Back Down, Amal says about her increased celebrity and criticism:
“In terms of an increased public profile, I think all I can do is try to turn the spotlight to what is important. That can benefit some clients. If I am at a work function and reporting of it focuses on irrelevant issues, there’s not much I can do about that. Since I can’t control it, my approach is just not to dwell on it and just get on with my work and my life and hope that attitudes will catch up.”
Still, Amal’s adoring and loving husband is head over heels for her and his constant praise is heart-melting.
He gushed, “She’s stunning and has a great sense of style — there’s no stylist or anything, she just comes out like that and she shows up and she looks stunning. And she does it while she’s got 11 cases going — literally. So she’s an amazing woman.”
With their twin daughters Alexander and Ella, who were born in 2017, the couple spends a lot of time at their waterfront Villa Oleandra in Lake Como, where they initially met in 2013.
“Every single day of my life, I just feel lucky,” Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter in a 2017 interview. “Lucky in my career. Lucky enough to have found the perfect partner. Sometimes in life it doesn’t happen on your schedule, but you find the person that you were always supposed to be with. That’s how I feel, and I know that’s how Amal feels.”
What a lucky pair! What do you think of George and Amal Clooney’s relationship?
