Richard Gere reveals the worst part of living in Spain: "I am incapable..."

There’s no place like home. It’s one of the most repeated phrases by Spaniards when traveling to other countries. The culture, the climate, the hospitality, the friendliness of the people… Our nation, on the other hand, never stops receiving praise when we welcome the millions of tourists who come to enjoy our strengths. These are the same strengths that have delighted Richard Gere. The veteran actor has been living in Spain for a few years now, influenced especially by his wife, the Galician Alejandra Silva. When asked about the worst part of living in our country in an interview with El Mundo, the actor is unable to provide a single detail: “Honestly, I like everything about Spain. I’m unable to say anything I dislike”.

The most striking thing, according to the actor, is that the impression of most foreigners is that the best country in the world is the United States. However, when they arrive there, most of them usually realize that nothing could be further from the truth. This was a feeling experienced by his wife, Alejandra Silva.

“They tell us all the time. Everything was going well until she started to realize some very dark things about my country. How is it possible that there is no public health care if you declare yourself the leader of the world? You can’t,” he explains about his wife’s first feelings when they moved to the country of the 13 stripes.

“She asked me all the time. ‘But isn’t there health care if you don’t pay for it?’ And I had to explain to her that every time something like that is tried, the Republicans block it. ‘And the guns?’ she asked me. The same,” he says, to highlight the quality of life in Spain compared, for example, with the United States.
